question about transfering my number

I just bought a ST phone yesterday & last night I activated it online & I requested to have my phone number from my old carrier transfered. I was told it could take anywhere from a couple of hours up to 7 days before my phone would be active. My question is: During the time the phone isn't active & I am waiting to see if my number will transfer has the 30 days on my unlimited plan already started? or will it start when the process is finished & the phone is active?
