Transfer/port phone # from Tracfone to ST

Transfer/port phone # from Tracfone to ST

Postby annathy » Tue Jan 23, 2018 5:07 pm

I have a Moto G5+, which I've been using on Tracfone's BYOP program. I've never had any trouble with the program, and have gone online & swapped out SIM cards to switch from CDMA to GSM whenever I needed to travel. I recently decided to switch to StraightTalk because the plans are better for me, and so I bought StraightTalk SIM cards for the BYOP of each service type, opened the GSM one, and did the activation online. I encountered no difficulty, but I never saw a prompt regarding transferring my phone number - honestly, I didn't remember to look, so it's possible I just missed it on the screen. At any rate, I bought a plan, activated the sim card, and was assigned a random new number (with a Florida area code ?? even though I'm in Texas). I absolutely need to keep my old phone number for work/personal/etc., so I called ST customer service and asked if they could transfer it to my new service for me.

The lady explained that because ST and TF are from the same company (....or something), it's not possible to directly port my old number from one (TF) to the other (ST) on the same phone. SO - in order to keep my number, I would need to use a second phone to activate my old number on ST service, and then transfer the number to my actual phone. I happened to have an old TF smartphone (not a BYOP I don't think) and she said that could work. I gave her the 2nd phone's info and she said she was able to "re-brand" it for StraightTalk. Now the main frustrating thing here is that in order to activate this other phone with my old number, I needed to buy another plan. I asked if there was any way I could get around this, or at least be re-funded, and she said it'd be possible but I'd need to be transferred higher up. So I got transferred to another lady, who started the process of activating the second phone. I spent another near $50 and had to set up a second account (for reasons still beyond me). She said it would take up to two business days to complete the activation and then I should call back to do the transfer to my new phone. Last but not least! she said I can't be refunded for the plan with the Florida number because that activation was complete. So I just threw away $50.

All the other times I've activated a phone it's been like twenty minutes at most, but I went ahead and waited more than two business days before trying to troubleshoot - but the secondary phone is still not activated or working. Now it's been a week, I'm stuck with this random new phone number and have likely missed a lot of texts and calls to the other number, and I've avoided calling customer service yet because I don't want another hour and a half call. Where do I go from here??

I'm sorry but what's the point of having a forum (or online tech support) if you're just going to pm me to call customer support? I'm here to avoid doing that.
