Porting in from another carrier

Postby ffemtp » Sat Nov 13, 2010 6:25 pm

I have had my cell number for over 16 years. A few years ago my area code split, so my zip code is now in another area code by default. I want to keep my same number, for obvious reasons. How can I go about porting my number in this case?

Hi. My name is StraightTalk Shelly and I will be addressing your question. To port in your existing telephone number to a Straight Talk phone, the number you are porting must be active with your current service provider. You will need to request Straight Talk to port in the number, we will process the request in your behalf no need to contact your current service provider to request to process the port in. In order to initiate the process, you may contact our customer care at 1-877-430-2355 or you may log on to our website atwww.straighttalk.com/Activate and select the radio button option "Activate my phone with a number transferred from another company." The process may take a few hours or a maximum of 7-10 days if there'll be any technical delay from your current provider. In case of a landline phone number, the process may take up to 30 days. I believe this answers your question. It's been a pleasure helping you. Have a good day.

I will be porting a number from US Cellular and I want to get it right the first time. Where ST asks on the porting form for previous account password/PIN, do they want the PW I use for online account access, or the PIN used for phone based CS, which in this case is the last 4 digits of my SSN. If so, should I then enter last 4 digits on two lines of the form? Thank you for clarifying.

Hi thefaf. My name is Straight Talk Stephanie and I will be addressing your question. We need your account number and account PIN or password with your service provider to complete the port request. I believe it is the phone based CS. I believe this answers your question. It's been a pleasure helping you. Have a good day.

I want to try it before I decide. What are the issues with trying Straight Talk with whatever number is assigned and then porting my existing cell number later if I decide to keep Straight Talk? Also, will I get a number initally which is a local landline call from my zip code used at sign up?
Thanks!

How long should it take to transfer number from Net-10 to Straight Talk? I've waited nearly 24 hours.

Hi bill77. If you are porting a number from NET10 to Straight Talk, the process will take within a few hours and up to 2 business days. Thanks!
