Group MMS Limit

Group MMS Limit

Postby kungfudanyo » Mon Aug 31, 2015 1:55 pm

I've always been able to send group texts to more than 10 recipients...until 8/25. Now all of a sudden I get, "Your mobile operator allows sending to 10 recipients. Remove one or more recipients and try again." or "Can't send message Try again".
When I receive a group message containing more than 10 people, recipients gets filtered out. The thread only displays 10 recipients. However, I know there are more because whenever people respond to the original thread, it starts a new thread on my phone with a different set of 10 recipients.
I've tried calling your wonderful customer support.
Last night I was told to call back and talk to a network specialist. I was given a pin number...which is apparently is meaningless because I was walked through the same steps as last night. I was transfered around (never to a network specialist), and after sitting on the phone for 20-30 minutes, the rep quietly ended the phone call without saying a word. Very frustrating.
I am using a Windows phone. Lumia 640.

The link to your chat representative was not very helpful. I was told that you do not, and never have supported group texts.

So I guess this will end my Straight Talk experiment.

I can't send or receive group texts at all anymore. I don't even get an error message saying it didn't go thru. I just assume it doesn't when no one replies to me. I really hope I am not missing any important ones sent to me. When I called ST and did the online chat I was told the same thing - they do not support group messages anymore. I should get an app for that (like Messenger). I am not going to tell my children's coaches to use Messenger because my phone company is cheap and group message doesn't work anymore. Very frustrated because I just bought this phone from Straight Talk.

This exact same thing happened to me at about the same time. I've been sending group texts to 15-30 people at a time weekly for nearly a year, then at about this same time I get "message failed". I didn't change anything, same carrier, same phone, same app, same settings, it just suddenly stopped working. It took me nearly 2 weeks to figure out that it only happens when I send to more than 10 people. I've since tried multiple different apps, settings as well as a workaround on my rooted phone, nothing has fixed this. The only thing that can be blocking it now is the carrier.
So what happened Straight Talk, why can't I group text more than 10 people? How do I fix this?

Private message was a link to live chat support, here is that conversation:

Stacy: Thank you for using our chat support. This is Stacy, how may I help you?

Michael : About 1 month ago I suddenly lost the ability to Group Text to large groups (more than 10 recipients).

Michael : I've been sending group texts to 15-30 people at a time weekly for nearly a year, then about a month ago I get "message failed". I didn't change anything, same carrier, same phone, same app, same settings, it just suddenly stopped working. It took me nearly 2 weeks to figure out that it only happened on messages sent to more than 10 recipients.

Michael : I would like to send Group Text messages to more than 10 people at a time, just like I was able to a month ago.

Stacy: I'm sorry to hear that. Let me check your account. Please stay on the line.

Stacy: Please turn the phone off then back on. Once done, try to check if the issue is resolved.

Michael : ok, im doing that now.

Stacy: Okay.

Stacy: Are you still there? If I do not get a response from you within three minutes, I will end this chat session.

Michael : Nope. Still cant send a Group Text (MMS) to more than 10 people at a time. "Failed"

Stacy: What is the make and model of your device?

Michael : Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Stacy: Okay. Please remove the battery while the phone is on. After 60 seconds, return the battery then turn the phone back on. Once done, try to check if it is still doing the same thing.

Michael : This is a carrier limitation. I can almost guarantee that any phone using Straight Talk (on the AT&T network) will not be able to send a Group Text to more than 10 people. I will remove my
battery and try again though. Give me a minute.

Stacy: Okay. I can wait for three minutes.

Stacy: Are you still there? If I do not get a response from you within three minutes, I will end this chat session.

Michael : Nope. Still not sending text message to a group larger than 10 recipients.

Stacy: Have you tried inserting the SIM to a different phone? If so, is it doing the same thing?

Stacy: Are you still there? If I do not get a response from you within three minutes, I will end this chat session.

Michael : I have not done that, but I will when mywife gets home. Again, i suspect that my sim in her phone won't allow me to send a large group text and her sim in my phone won't send a large group
text either. The problem is that we both use Straight Talk sim cards on the AT&T network. The phone isn't the problem, the sim isnt the problem, the carrier is the problem. I will try though.

Stacy: Okay. You can also try to check the Message Settings.

Stacy: Is there anything else that I can assist you with?

Michael : Can you confirm for me that someone there is using a cell phone with a Straight Talk (AT&T) sim card and is able to send a group text to more than 10 people?

Stacy: Unfortunately, I can't since there were no customers chatting us to report that they can send more than people.

Michael : Ok

My sim card in my wifes Galaxy S5 trying to send a text message to 21 recipients using Go SMS Pro: "Too many recipients"

My wifes sim card in my Note 3 sending a group text to 21 recipients using Textra: "Failed"

What now Straight Talk? How do we get large group texting back?
