I have an option on the sidebar of my account management where I can enable Wi-Fi Calling, but clicking it just leads to being told I have to call a number and see if I'm eligible to swap to a sim which allows it. Since my current phone is not volte compatible, I don't want to mess with the sim so I can't see how this process works. Best not to risk being told my sim can't be aactivated and such.
Currently, I'm looking into purchasing a factory unlocked (no carrier branding) Galaxy Note 9. People have had mixed results trying to get Wi-Fi Calling to work on it with various carriers, especially on the latest firmware. It seems to constantly boil down to whether the carrier thinks it's okay to rob people of a feature simply because they have a non-carrier-locked device. Scarily, similar seems to apply to volte. (Example: my current phone, a Verizon Note 3, has the hardware to do volte but because it's Verizon branded and they chose to disable it in firmware I now have to buy a new phone before I can truly afford one.)
My question is: does anyone know if Wi-Fi Calling works with Straight Talk using the factory unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note 9? I desperately need this feature, as I live in a mobile dead zone and have to travel a couple miles out just for weak signal or wait for the hour or less a day that I get one 4G bar when I'm at home.
Also: What about volte compatibility - will the phone even work at all? I haven't bought it yet, so I don't have an IMEI to plug into the BYOD page; the seller claims it's compatible but idk when they checked or if they actually plugged in the device ID on the site to be sure.
