i wanted to know if i go ahead and buy a new phone instead of waiting for a replacement
can my minutes be switched to my new phone

Hi Brenlee. My name is Straight Talk Debbie and I will be addressing your question. You can transfer the remaining service as long as your service plan is compatible with the new phone. You can't transfer the service if your old phone has the All You Need Plan and your new phone is only compatible with the Unlimited Plan. I believe this answers your question.
