Cannot activate my used Straight Talk phone

Hello! I purchased a used Straight Talk phone that I am trying to activate. This phone has some remaining service from its old owner, so I can't seem to activate it with my account. I receive this message:

We are sorry, the Serial Number you entered is associated with another account or is already active. Please try again with a different serial number or log into "My Account."

How do I deactivate the phone from its old account so that I can create my own Straight Talk account?
