Have a balance on old phone, will they transfer to new phone

I just received my SIm card today for my smartphone along with my Unlimited minutes card. Before I transfer my old phone number to the new phone, can I keep my remaining minutes from the old phone and transfer to the new smartphone or will I lose those? Or will ST give me credit for unused? My reload isn't due until the 20th of March. My old phone is a non-smart phone and I was using the $30 plan, with 1000 minutes. I would like to activate my new phone asap.

I’m sorry to inform you that the service plan from the old phone would not be transferred to the new phone because your old phone has the $30 plan and your new phone, a smartphone, is only compatible with unlimited service.

If you wish to activate the new phone today, I need to take this issue offline so I can gather your account information to check your account. I will contact you directly with a private message.
