Bring your own Phone

Bring your own Phone

Postby Rebel60 » Tue Feb 14, 2012 11:36 am

I am interested in the new BYOP sim program. I have been using a Samsung R451C phone & I get pretty good coverage in my area & most places I travel (zip code 39507). My concern is upgrading to a smartphone as they use the GSM network. I wanted to purchase an unlocked GSM phone like the Samsung Galaxy S II which is a quad GSM phone but according to your coverage map the Android based phones have limited coverage. Will I get as good as coverage as my R451c phone or would It be better to get a phone that works on the T-Mobile or AT&T network? I don't want to spend $$$ on a phone that will get worse coverage. Do all the GSM phones use Sprint towers?

Hi Rebel60. My name is Straight Talk John and I will be addressing your query. Our Android map is only based on Sprint Coverage. If you're going to use a GSM Android phone, you will have to use the T-Mobile or AT&T Coverage Map as SIM card that will be used will operate under either both of these towers. You may also check www.straighttalksim.com for more information. Thanks!

This isn't most topic, but I understand you need to purchase a new SIM card for this to work, but what if I wanted to switch to another phone, would that require another SIM card?

Hi jdegroat. You can transfer the SIM card to any other unlocked phone. That will work as long as the card is compatible with the phone. Thanks!
